Lucid Dreaming tells the story of a girl in a train, that loses herself in the world of a man sitting across from her. As she gets carried away in his world, the train and its passengers become part of the experience she encounters through him. As a non-verbal meeting between two strangers is established, she experiences how imagination and empathy are powerful and vulnerable at the same time.
Lucid dreaming was written & directed by Emma Evelein and produced by Blanc film. The film premiered at the Netherlands Film Festival, where it won the Dutch Academy Award for best short film, called ‘Gouden Kalf’. In 2024 and 2025 the film will be shown at various festivals around the world. It has been accepted by the French Academy, also known as the “Cesar”.

Sarah Berridge, jury member Exeter Dance International Film Festival 2024:
“Wow – this film is beautiful. Each character is fully immersed (with every inch of their being) into the world of magical realism. I love the characterisation (aided by the amazing costumes) and the weighty, gestural choreography, beautifully performed with control and attack by the whole ensemble. Gloriously intriguing and joyful – what a ride! The dancers interpret the idea of the piece, into something profound, manic and mesmerizing”.
